We captured a foreign terrorist on our soil yesterday. He is linked to the bombing of an airplane that killed over 70 people, a car bomb in Washington, DC that killed two and multiple bombings at tourist resorts that targeted foreign tourists. He still has knowledge of other people who were involved in these incidents. He was on the FBI's terrorist watch list, illegally entered the country through Mexico and was hiding here for several weeks.
If this guy's name was Muhammed, he'd be held as an enemy combatant.
I don't believe we're fighting a war against a religion, but does anyone honestly believe that last statement isn't true? Instead, the Department of Homeland Security has said that we MUST decide his immigration status within the next 48 hours.
I'm not for holding people indefinitely or without due process. I understand that this case is different than a combatant captured in Afghanistan. However, we can take a little longer than two days to decide. If we're fighting a war against extremism or a war against terrorism, then this is someone we can't ignore for the simple sake of politics. We need to set an example for how we deal with all terrorists, not simply those from a single religion.
