Who's to blame for all the democracy?

Kevin Drum says the following:
Elections in Iraq and Egypt. Syrian withdrawal from Lebanon. Voluntary disarmament in Libya. New progress between Israel and the Palestinians. A lot has happened in the Middle East since the invasion of Iraq two years ago.

Who gets the credit for all this? George Bush? And what are the lessons learned?
The Washington Monthly has seven foreign policy specialists answer these questions. Drum also has Dan Drezner and Marc Lynch, both slightly more conservative than your average Washington Monthly reader or writer, blogging this week to give some answers. Democracy Arsenal has already jumped in to the debate and TCS conveniently has an article on communications technology promoting democracy.

Based on reading some of the answers, I narrow the questions down to two:
1) Was democracy Bush's main goal in invading Iraq?
2) Did the invasion of Iraq lead directly to the movements towards democracy we see today in the region?

Along with a key third unasked question
3) Now that we see these first positive movements, what can we do to help them along?

More later this week. In the meantime, Washington Monthly should be a good blog to watch this week.
