Ivo Daalder and James Goldgeier write in today's Washington Post that the failure to expand the EU to Ukraine, the Balkans and Turkey would be very bad for the region. My comment on the op-ed is over at Ivo Daadler's request for comments at TPM Cafe. Nothing like being able to write the author himself. Also, Tony Blair seems to agree with Daalder and Goldgeier as he is opening up low profile negotiations with Turkey.
Also of note, Polish journalist Krzysztof Bobinski has an interesting article on Poland's role in the EU. For some in Western Europe, Poland is a symbol of everything wrong with the EU because they feel they have lost jobs to Polish immigrants. For others, Poland is everything that is right with the EU, showing that hard work will pull every country's economy up.
On a slightly different topic, The Telegraph also writes about a Chinese spy network that is operating in Europe. Just another example of China's attempt to increase its influence throughout the world.
