Chavez attacks CAFTA and gets widespread international media coverage for it, wow, nobody could have predicted that.
Venezuela's cardinal called Chavez a "paranoid dictator" who "needs an exorcism". The protesters marching for better elections also got coverage in the media.
The Economist covers how Venezuela is using oil wealth to attempt to buy influence. Even better, I appreciated that they didn't take the route of paranoid anti-Chavistas and they actually discussed the fact that effects of this plan are debatable. Meanwhile, the Ecuadorian government has confirmed the purchase of $300 million in debt.
Today's Miami Herald covers a weird, quasi-socialist plan being implemented by the Venezuelan government. If you want to understand why the Venezuelan economy's fundamentals are so bad (only to be propped up by high oil prices), read this.
And last, but most importantly, an editorial in the Miami Herald once again slams the Venezuelan government for its political persecution of Sumate. Sumate was engaged in legitimate democratic activity. Its prosecution is a sign of just how far democracy has degraded.
