Global PR Blog Week 2.0 has had some fantastic articles this week and will be continuing through Friday. As many of you know, in my real life job (the one that pays me and keeps me from blogging more), I work in global public relations/strategic communications/whatever other fancy term the meta-PR people think of.
For PR consultants, blogs and other citizen generated content and media are either an exciting new way to communicate with people or a frightening new enemy that destroys tightly managed communications structures. Citizen managed media does give more power to consumers and it does make it harder to run damage control or change long held perceptions. However, I'm still a firm believer in the first option. I see blogs as a way to communicate with clients and customers, and more importantly, allow that communication to be multi-directional.
The other issue is that PR companies are going to either become more transparent, or fight a losing battle against a culture on the internet that demands transparency. It'll be an interesting issue to watch over the next few years.
