"Internally displaced", "refugee camps", "mass evacuation", "thousands dead". There is a lexicon when analyzing disasters in developing nations that, through modernization and hubris, simply seems it should not apply when talking about the United States. The full scope of the hurricane damage is still not known because initial rescue efforts continue, but this is certainly on level with the worst natural disasters in the nation's history.
I'll be donating to the Red Cross, and I encourage others to do the same or donate to their preferred charity.
