President Fox's 'Bring it on'

Mexican President Fox in an interview with Reuters:
"We are going to win this battle. We'll see who is tougher, we'll see who is more stubborn..."
I don't know if Fox should challenge drug cartels to a toughness contest, because I don't think for Mexican citizens that tough language without results really matters. However, he also said the government forces have taken control of Nuevo Laredo in the last two months, and have made an impact even as violence levels remain high. The problem is that the violence is a nationwide problem, and while results in the border towns are welcome, it doesn't help that a majority of people in Mexico know someone who has been mugged or kidnapped in the past two years.

President Fox has a very short time to get his legacy in order, and one of those points will be how he leaves the government's security situation against violence and the drug cartels. The initial battle for Nuevo Laredo was a step, but if Fox is serious about setting his legacy, we will see even more drastic security measures, not just words, over the next few months.

UPDATE: The Onion reports President Fox saying, "The only thing we have to fear is the Chupacabra".
