What's the WH subcommittee up to?

Bouncing around my brain yesterday was the question of what the US House Western Hemisphere Subcommittee covers overall. Each of the hearings individually gets coverage, but what happens if you look at the totality of the hearings that they hold? So I counted them up.

The subcommittee has held 28 hearings in the past 32 months:

• Three hearings have been general overviews of the region.
• Six have been about regional topics (Poverty, Deportees, Remittances, Energy, Foreign Assistance and Drug Policy).
• Two have addressed outside players in the hemisphere (China and Iran).
• Six have addressed the Merida Initiative and security in Mexico and Central America.
• Three have been on Colombia (including one on Colombia-Ecuador relations).
• Two have been on Haiti.
• And one has been held on each of the following: Brazil, Cuba, Guatemala, Venezuela, Bolivia and Honduras.

Just looking at the topics, and ignoring for a second whether they have the right witnesses or enough points of view, is this the correct scope for US relations with Latin America? Are there any glaringly obvious holes or missing policy priorities that the committee should cover?
